It’s that time of the year and everyone is worried about getting their body ‘beach ready’ (more on that at another time). So many are looking for that next quick fix and often turn to the latest trend – ‘cleansing’ or ‘detoxing’.
Ok – so here’s the deal about that.
A ‘cleanse’ or ‘detox’ is just another diet.
Your body is equipped to do all of the detoxing and cleansing it needs – that’s what our liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, and digestive tract are for.
If you are feeling out of sorts in your body – bloated, uncomfortable, etc., – start listening to your body and ask her what she needs. A ‘cleanse’ will only leave you less connected with your body and lead to more urges to overeat and binge on the exact foods that you may be trying to ‘cleanse’ yourself of.
Do yourself a favor and stop this madness. Start listening to your body. Start honoring ALL of her hunger (and fullness!) signals. Start speaking to her with kindness and love and respect.
Here’s my ‘cleanse’ recipe:
- Cleanse your mind of the continuous diet mentality of deprivation and negative self talk.
- Stop abusing yourself from always restricting calories and enjoyment of food.
- START adding JOY of into your life.
- Sit down and really enjoy the food you are eating.
- Wear clothes that fit and make you feel good and ‘cleanse’ your closet of clothes that no longer fit.
- Cleanse your social media feeds from the #fitspo and #transformationtuesday and #beforeandafter and any other diet promoting posts that leave you feeling less than. Fill your feed with body inclusive #bodypositive and non-diet, #healthateverysize #haes posts.
- Cleanse your internal dialogue from negative to kindness and love.
That is a real cleanse that will transform your life – forever!
